“Attamen, propter naturam disobedientiae in praxi mea, descriptio videtur necessaria (vel saltem conatus ad eam)” ¹². Praxis mea suggerit clausuram non semper tacticam nec omnino moderabilem. Tactica iacet in dispositione obiectorum, formis quae quasi chorea moderata apparent et evanunt.

As for any futurist tendencies within avant-garde, experimental music contains within it the potential for a new world, envisaged (or amplified) through sound. With music technology as it currently stands, some of the most experimental music appears (sounds) to be reaching towards a future as of yet unrealised. A cursory glance through leading texts on futuristic music presents some terminology, most comical of which oniontology. A question that has interested me for quite a while is at what point does avant-garde, experimental (for lack of a better term, underground) music reach it’s limit? And what does today’s music see beyond its own limit? Eschew tonality into some form of atonality, rhythm into microrhythms, form into pure form – the question remains: if the modernist vision of art is its continual development toward the new, what eventuates from the exhaustion of possible newness in form and technique? It is to be noted that this is a separate question from the implications of the end of the new that so-called postmodernism has put forth.
Human beings have and will continue to create new narratives, or new forms of narrative telling, in sonic art. We have stories to tell, and god help us we will tell stories. The problem for this paper, and further writings, is what if we have already reached the new? Sonically, at the very least, synthesis and broader technology has reached a rather important milestone. Computer music has allowed even the average musician to work and rework their music into an accessible, semi-professional artwork. What is beyond this point, where technology meets amateur-ness to create often remarkable artworks.
